We are living in incredible times. We find ourselves at what has been announced as the dawn of a new order of ages, a golden era. This "new becoming” consists of a growing awareness of the inherent spirit within each one of us. Nevertheless, it appears to many people that the whole planet resides in a boiling condition, seemingly crumbling under massive problems. It looks as if that planetary situation dwells in a more terrible conjuncture than ever, hardly unfolding naturally and painlessly toward a new dawn. In reality, we now “just” have to make up for an eon of a counter-spinning cycle. Clearly, the task is major. To a certain degree, I would say that we all ought to be quite realistic when witnessing the world’s situation, for Earth’s balance is so precarious that anyone with a minimum of consciousness can easily discern the problems. Increasing racism and the tyranny of control by many groups and governments is progressively strangling people at all levels. The unleashing on the planet of all the winds from the house of vices and the underworlds makes us question whether humanity, being so permeable, is doomed never to blossom spiritually.
Ancient prophecies affirm, however, that humanity has gone through the worst. There is no doubt of this. The Bird Tribes tell of the terrible clashes of hate that have always existed, everywhere, between the forces of darkness and the forces of love, fomented by greed and ancestral feelings of racial superiority. This is not something new. What is distinct now is that the abuses of the dark forces, some hidden for thousands of years, are being brought to the polished surface of the international mirror for all of us to see, to feel the indignation, to witness thousands of daily violations of humanity made visible to the light of our souls and hopefully to be healed all together.
These events are manifest illusions, reflected in this amplified mirror, nightmarishly distorted, but nevertheless real. The only hint of optimism we can hold, however, is the hope that this might be the maturation of a human disease process. Every good healer can say that, in any healing process, there is a cathartic point at which the disease grows more purulent than ever, when the pain becomes unbearable. This is when the illness begins to leave the body, at last transmuted. Humanity has now reached this point, because a consciousness beyond the cultural obscurantism of the last thousand years is now available to anyone who chooses to open to it. This is the good news.
Since the Harmonic Convergence in 1987, the Earth, along with our entire solar system, has begun the ascent into the cosmic tree of life, after its interminable descent to the realms of Xibalba, into the insensibility of our human ignorance. Today, any attempt to make positive change creates a good and direct repercussion on the planet, even on a small scale. While, centuries ago, many good deeds done for the benefit of all races were suppressed by the coercive classes and shut down forever, today, the energies of cause and effect prevail in a most direct cosmic alignment. This new state is given by the shift of eras and the cosmic laws. What took centuries to reap, for good or for evil, is now almost immediate. The dark forces may still try to resist a positive action, but the decisive moment of love is now engaged among humans, and it is only a matter of time before its irreversible effect prevails on a large scale. The obscure powers may continue their old frightening tactics of repression, but there is today a boomerang counter-effect that turns these acts into clear self-sabotage. In consequence, the dark forces are drowing in their own bath of madness everywhere on the globe. Meanwhile, decent-hearted humans all over understand that, within this apparently disconnected world imposed upon us, we must keep our consciousness intact. Right now, thousands of people from all races and classes dream of a better world, the exact same one of which you dream. This is a reality, not an evasion. In this dream dwells our future, our morning star. In a time when the global swelling of the empire of money is at its fragile pinnacle, only faith and conscious action based on a planetary awareness can be the remedy. This is all part of a necessary process through which the organic body of Earth expels any deep and rotten afflictions.
The majority of ancient prophecies around the world speak of the shifting eras at the end of the 20th century. Some present a more apocalyptic picture than others, yet all of them refer to a major transformation we are about to live, if we are not living it already. Some predictions announce that half of the population will perish and Earth will undergo catastrophic alterations. Clearly, Earth is already enduring adverse changes. We can concentrate exclusively on negative aspects of these prognostications, but the growing positive awareness of humanity is actually in correspondence with the intensifying forces of love around the planet. When there is an important natural disaster on Earth, the international community mobilizes to bring aid. In some countries, it has been the civilians and the international community that have stopped wars and genocide- for instance, the war declared by the Zapatistas in 1994 against the Mexican Federal Army and government, and the politics of terror exercised against these natives in 1995, 1998, and still today.
In an attempt to acquire a deeper understanding of world events, I have closely explored the ancient prophecies, at first as a form of diversion, almost like reading a horoscope. Later, however, as my own frustration grew at the lack of clarity and hope I found in the world, I began to immerse myself in these prophecies as a way to envision the larger lines and cycles beyond our meager human awareness, seeing them as authentic maps of guidance in the vastness of this post-modern human jungle. What exactly were the ancient shamans and priests seeing of us when they recorded their accurate perceptions thousands of years ago? In looking at their remarkable foretellings, I realized there were incredible, reappearing correlations between the Maya, Mongolian and Iroquois prophecies, seers from all three traditions discerning our times for us with their great gifts of divination. They had probably perceived that we would not be endowed with the ability to envision the larger wheels of cycles in our own present season of great shifts, in the midst of the international turmoil through which we are living.
THE FIFTH SUN
The ancient Maya people possessed an enlightened understanding of the universe that they expressed through the creation of their calendars. In their study of the galaxy, they recorded the passage of time in the smaller counts, or minor cycles, as well as in the large counts of the great Baktuns. These major cycles are the progressive wheels of the great eras.
In order to grasp the great Maya prophecies, we must examine the larger wheel of Baktuns. Every one of us is connected to the galaxy through the dreaming cord of higher consciousness. Therefore, we can refine our awareness, to the extent of harmonizing all aspects of our life to the cosmic movements. This thread of consciousness is attached to the Earth, the Sun, Venus, and the Pleiades at the very core of the galaxy, and is the passageway for these entities to teach us into our being. We saw how our zenith is determined by the passage of the Pleiades in the sky. This also represents the height of inner consciousness. So the inner centers of the Earth and Sun are aligned with the cosmic zenith (of the Pleiades), just as the shamans are in the Tree of Life teachings. These wheels of star systems exist within much larger wheels and are moving at their own rhythm, at the pace of their own heartbeat in an eternal circular pulse synchronized with this greatest galactic breathing. All the various cosmic wheels cross at different specific points in time where the energies meet, creating a loom of vertical and horizontal threads very similar to the Mongol cosmic vision I will share here. At the crossroads of the threads, where stars meet in the larger loom, the shamans determine the convergence of the cycles and uncover great truth by estimating the movement of eras in the great wheels of time and space.
In the ancient Maya calendar, what is called the large count clearly exposes the vision of the great cycles, as well as the prophecies of this changing era. For them, cycles of time are moving and spiraling in clockwise and counterclockwise motions at the same time, the currents of energy of the tonal and the nahual axes penetrating each other. In their view, the galaxy is an immense being, breathing in us as we breathe, that transcends consciously to a magnitude we cannot even imagine. In their infinite concept of time, time itself cannot be seen as linear, for it is not a single continuum. Time is circular, moving inward and outward at this very moment. In the vast mystery, there is a vast consciousness, an intelligence of the pure divine order in which time is a converging gyroscope, flowing within and without along the serpent cord. The ability to perceive that time revolves clockwise and counterclockwise at the same time confers a wholeness on this discernment. Our current linear perception of time merely conceives of time as a line that goes away, in a progression of moments we are leaving and ones that we are heading toward. This is the countermovement of time. Only shamans are trained to experience the clockwise current of time, the one that comes towards us, the one that holds the past in our future, the future in our past, neutralizing the pure illusions of past and future movements of time. For a shaman, seeds of past and future are in the exact present, in the meeting place of these two opposite movements, in the now. What we can understand here is that, although in our perception time may appear to move in a clockwise manner, in fact, we are also counter-rotating with this linear concept. If humanity could adopt this new vision of time, clockwise and counterclockwise at the same time, we would have no need of making or holding onto human history. Our societies would be perpetually stable and centered. This is the magical mind that has grounded the most stable tribal and shamanic societies that have ever existed, some of them for many thousands of years.
Convergence of Great Cycles
Among the Maya astronomers, the large count calculates cycles in relation to the great Baktuns. The basic unity in all their complex calculations is the Tun of 360 days (or 360 kins). The Maya year is composed of 360 kins, plus a five-day period of bad omens, named the Uyaeb, at the end of the year, for a total of 365 days a year. Kin is the Sun and represents the unity of one day, each day being considered as notes or tones that determine its very frequency. One Baktun lasts 400 Tuns or (394.2 of our solar years). This is then sub-divided into 20 minor cycles. The Mayas determined that a larger cycle ruling our galaxy was composed of thirteen harmonic Baktuns, symbolized as the large tunnel of the vision serpent, its actual body. Thirteen Baktuns last 13 x 400 Tuns, a total of 5,200 Maya years of 360 days or (5,125 solar years). This means that the vision serpent requires thirteen Baktuns for its digestion process in order to manifest all its incredible visions of the cosmos. Another way of looking at this is to see the main canal of the serpent as having a diameter of 5,200 years, or thirteen Baktuns in time. Each Baktun emits an organic intonation, each represented by one of the under or upper gods. In even a larger view, they observed that there are effectively thirteen great cycles of thirteen Baktuns within this greater cycle, and that the consciousness of thirteen is the frequency that radiates its awareness in all directions at once, permeating the universe with the knowledge of the great galactic serpent.
The thirteen Baktuns in the great wheel of time are called the Ahau Cycle. They last 5,200 Maya years. This cycle repeats itself endlessly and forever, from one to thirteen and then thirteen to one, in a clockwise and counterclockwise count. Every Ahau Cycle of thirteen Baktuns is considered an important wave of teachings for the entire galaxy and more specifically for the solar system. With this system, they could calculate all the great eras, far behind and far ahead throughout billions of years. And these cycles encompass the life of our solar system and entire galaxy.
The first Baktun of the Ahau Cycle that we are in now started on August 11, 3113 B.C. and ended in approximately 2718 B.C. The last of the thirteen Baktuns, the one we are presently completing, started in 1618 and will end on January 11, 2013. The predictions affirm that these particular Baktuns of our present cycle symbolized the coming of the nine lower lords and the descent into Xibalba, reaching the ninth house of death in this thirteenth and final Baktun. Therefore, the last 5,200 years were ruled by the nine lords of shadows and death. The cycle we are leaving is said to be a counter-gyration to the clockwise revolution of the galaxy.
The Maya prophecy affirms that, at the end of Baktun Thirteen, we will start our ascent to the thirteen upper spheres, when the new cycle begins in 2013. We have only reached the year 2000, the end of a long millennium according to the Georgian calendar, we have entered the Aquarian age (at the end of the 1950s), and, according to the Mayas, we are also ending this much larger cycle of thirteen Baktuns.
These thirteen Baktuns of 5,200 Maya years (or 5,125 solar years) is the life of one Maya Sun. As we reach the end of this larger cycle, the Maya priests hold the knowledge that we are leaving the fourth Sun and will soon set foot in the fifth Sun. The various eras of the Sun are of great importance. They understood that the Sun exists as our major channel to the knowledge and intelligence transmitted by the galactic navel of the serpent, through other stars. The supersensory information flowing through the great cord of the heart of the universe is transmitted from one galaxy to another, one star system to another, until it reaches our solar system. This form of cosmic communication occurs through the divine intercourse of energies and knowledge that occurs through rays, threads of energy, waves of sound, and filaments of higher forms of light. Once the Sun, as a perfect receptacle, receives the cosmic knowledge, its beacon provides each of its children-planets with a life-path of teachings. To move from the fourth Sun to the fifth therefore implies that our solar system has been permeated by all of the thirteen Baktuns. This change signifies that a new digestive phase of the great rattlesnake is about to begin: dreaming, envisioning, teaching, and integrating. We have thus apparently entered the dreaming phase, the beginning of this new process. This connection also corresponds, in the human body, to our solar plexus that holds the light of the Sun and is directly connected to it by a thread. This medicine center is named discernment, or the power of discrimination, knowing, and natural justice. The solar plexus is also the seat of memory in the body.
The Maya Fifth Sun
So the cosmic serpent is about to give birth to the emerging fifth Sun through its mouth, in the same way it gave birth to the great vision of the Maize God for the survival of humanity. In this dreaming phase of the birthing, the Sun originates emissions of higher teachings and energies that may gradually change the Earth. As we reach this extraordinary transition into the fifth Sun, however, the Earth definitively suffers a colossal compression of energy in the natural overlapping of the cycles. It is important to understand that cycles do not end on one specific day, but overlap in a transformation period, the one ending being severed counterclockwise and the new one increasing clockwise. This simultaneous occurrence creates a period of solar compression that lasts twenty-five years and began at the Harmonic Convergence on August 16 and 17, 1987.
Since this date, Earth, due to this enhanced compression, has reached a very high vibratory level of perturbation in her core in trying to adapt to the new changes of the Sun, now showering us with the radiation of a new consciousness from the core of the galaxy. The twenty-five years of overlapping is called the period of purification, being the initiation of this critical burst of energy. For all these reasons, the dawn of the fifth Sun is believed to be of unparalleled magnitude.
The Mayas also prophesied that at the closing of Baktun thirteen (in A.D. 2013), all the degenerated people would perish. The transition into the fifth Sun is symbolized in the ancient predictions as a fight between the arrogant and the humble man, a struggle in which true humility vanquishes arrogance, and survives as the ultimate winner. This heralds the end of pyramidal societies and the establishment of egalitarian societies, a great return to the ancient native Council Ways as the model of life for all the people.
The prophecies emphasize that a period of sixty hours of darkness between the shift of the two suns in A.D. 2013 may fall upon us as the very first sign of the renewal of all people toward the great brotherhoods.
The Christ, being the thirteenth of his twelve disciples, came during Baktun Seven to remove the karmic protection of this planet of the year A.D. 2000, or more precisely, A.D. 2013. Until now, this supposed protection has kept humans from harvesting the consequences of their actions (positive or negative) in the same lifetime. These consequences have been felt through a slow process and over many lives. Now that this protection is removed from humanity, we are all bound to cause and effect in a most direct manner. Sometimes actions and their consequences appear only weeks apart. In other words, we all must purify our past life-actions in this ending cycle, for we are now facing their immediate repercussions in the entrance to the fifth Sun. This is the speeding up process that has been predicted for thousands of years by seers. The Christ, the Sun God, came to announce that the last judgment will occur 2,000 years after his death, that the degenerated souls who have not chosen light will be forever forbidden entrance into future incarnations on Earth. Without this occurrence, humanity will never be capable of a true purification toward an authentic evolution, being constantly enticed to the lowering of spirit by degraded and corrupt souls. In the terms of a possible last judgment, we have to understand this as something different from a castigation process. It is rather a major purification of humanity.
Echoes of the Maya Cosmos
The great density on Earth over the last few thousand years, translated into the materialistic greed from which the Earth has suffered under the reign of the nine lords of the Underworlds, has kept humanity from lifting its awareness to perceive the higher harmony of the universe and achieve lasting brotherhoods. The trial of the last thirteen Baktuns consisted of looking into the shadow mirror and conquering the fears of death in Xibalba. Those souls, especially infants and young souls, who have not conquered their fears of death and shadow in their previous incarnations in this long cycle, must be born now to meet this trial in their own inner Xibalba. Before the critical mass is reached in A.D. 2013, everyone’s fears must be mastered, for we cannot enter into the new Sun with the encumbrance of our human density (physical, emotional, or psychic). Since the Harmonic Convergence, the majority of new souls being born to this plane consists mostly of old souls with higher wisdom who will be ready, in A.D.2013, to take their place in order to establish the peace governments and the true ways of living among the people. Up to now, we have been predominantly ruled by young souls striving to fight for power positions, out of greed and corruption.
But what exactly is the Harmonic Convergence?
The Harmonic Convergence is a most exalted gateway at the end of Baktun Thirteen and the entrance of the new cycle (in 2013), the gateway to a new cycle that will last 67,600 Maya years, or 66,625 of our solar years. In the great perspective that we have seen, the priests witnessed that there is an even larger cycle of thirteen cycles of thirteen Baktuns (13 x 5,200 = 67,600 years) that represents the perfect cosmic evolution, or the movement from light to shadows and shadows to light (1 to 13 and 13 to 1). As we end this tremendous cycle, thirteen cycles of thirteen Baktuns, the Harmonic Convergence launches us to the very point of concentration between each cycle. The doorway was August 16 and 17, 1987. It is said that, in the twenty-five-year period of purification, old fixed and static structures will be challenged by the new intensity of the expanding awareness that we are receiving through an increased flow in the medicine field of the solar system. In the consonant adjustment of Earth with the zenith of our cosmos cord, the Harmonic Convergence announced a drastic reversal in the chaos and discords that the Earth has suffered up to now. This is a tangible alignment toward global harmonization through the cords that link us with the Sun, Venus, and the Pleiades. In shamanic terms, this is a pure alignment, an increased awareness of our responsibility to Earth, as her core aligns sensitively and slowly to the cosmic core. The entrance into the Harmonic Convergence, therefore, involves the overcoming of all antagonistic forces when entering this higher frequency. Even if the overthrow of the dark forces called Dark Mentalists is announced cosmically, we, as humans, still have to manifest our will, our positive action, and our alliance to combat these negative forces.
The twenty-five years of purification are irrevocably the end of the counterclockwise wind, or the dissonant wheel. In A.D. 2013, the clockwise movement toward the ascent in our tree will lead us to adjust and disengage from our human history. The clockwise return will allow us to realize how badly we have been counter-spinning and how far we have gone from our original essence. From our egocentric navels, we must now open to the astounding navel of the galaxy and start dreaming this original connection, its existence, substance, and very laws.
In these times, many native prophecies affirm that the thunderbirds may strike massively, or may already be striking. Apparently, all our personal lessons are increasing and this is happening through gentle cosmic compression when seen from a larger perspective. Yet it is surely intense for every one of us on a human level. The necessary personal and world crisis that precedes the true transmutation is of utmost importance. The crisis may be felt at all levels, from spiritual and psychological to technological. Our old Mother Earth is undergoing a major shamanic rite of passage for twenty-five years, into the small death passage before the rebirth. For this, the purpose of the Harmonic Convergence is to convey the new Sun’s vision of her birth through the mouth of the cosmic snake. As with every birth, there are waves of painful contractions, times of opening and struggle, the breaking loose from antiquated, inflexible systems, the timeless activation of memories and reminiscences of ancient archetypes, all energies descending from the thirteen heavens and awakening the deepest reservoirs of Earth. This period of energetic condensation leads us irremediably beyond our limited sense of self and into a new way of life, a new order of being. The Harmonic Convergence, as the gateway into the twenty-five years of purification, is the zero point, the entrance into the portal, brining into the midst of apparent planetary chaos a definite line of order with which we must align. It is the return to the center of the spiral, to our original nature as humans. We are therefore falling into the void of the very zero for twenty-five years and there is nothing we can hang onto, absolutely nothing, until we land on the authentic dreaming of our humanity, of being together, for this next period and Baktun.
The Mayas knew that the return to the clockwise cycle propels us toward the complete transmutation of the dominant male mind that has ruled us for centuries – an old skin about to be shed, the shedding of the decayed skin of the cosmic snake. Based on scientific materialism, the thought that the Earth is dead matter, the notion of the superiority of humankind’s mind, must suffer a tremendous and sudden shift. We have seen that in the Medicine Wheel practice, when we move counterclockwise around the wheel, it sends energy into the Earth, releasing inner negativity. On the other hand, the clockwise walk lifts energy from the Earth to the sky. This understanding of the law of gravity versus the law of levity and of light is seen in the Maya great cycles.
The counter-spinning cycle that belonged to the West direction of the cosmic wheel bound us to materialism in the dense law of gravity ruled by the lower lords and the fear of death. We are now being born into the East, seeing, at last, the light at the end of the tunnel. This birth takes twenty-five years. As we emerge from the tunnel, we are merging with the East, ruled by the law of light and levity. The warriors of fear, of greed, and of wars are about to be superseded by the warriors of the East, seeking the new light of truth. We are definitively entering into the reign of the Rainbow Warrior. We must not, however, forget the lesson we have (or have not) learned in the last 5,200 years, because the lessons of shadows are the very roots of the tree for the great Rainbow Warrior. The transformation of the old, the passage from history to post-historic civilization, will not just happen, but will require a “revolution by and for the Earth.”1 This is the conscious memory of the warrior. Outside of this, history is useless. In this transformation, levity does not mean being weightless, floating in the ether (or our ozone holes!), but rather the enlarging of our human tree of consciousness. For this, we decisively need strong roots. This is what has been called the Maya Return.
